Easter 2013. The One Where We Hang Bryce Off a Cliff.

Aside from the fact that the fish had a high adventure and barely escaped with his life (here), and aside from the fact that we had to rescue my nephew Ayden from the wet, muddy "quick" sand (here), I would say this was one of the best Easters.

Also aside from the fact that we didn't actually do anything on Easter Sunday.  Except I went to church but I do that every Sunday.  We didn't hide eggs or even have a fancy ham dinner.  We grilled steaks for the two of us and watched movies.  You wouldn't have even known it was Easter at our house.

But just because we didn't do much on the actual Easter Sunday didn't mean we weren't celebrating it up from Tuesday to Saturday before hand.

And we did hide chocolate eggs for The Circus the weekend before (here) so aside from the actual Easter Sunday, we had a great Easter. :)

It started out when we busted out of work early on Tuesday and hit the road.

West "knew a place" in a little, barely there town off the freeway with great hamburgers and shakes so we pulled off for a late lunch.  I know a thing or two about living in a small town and this place had me grinning and remembering.

This pull up hamburger box was the only "restaurant" in the town and while we were there a few different groups of teens came by on combinations of bikes and four wheelers.  Because what else are you going to do on a warm afternoon in a small town but ride your four wheeler to the burger joint for a shake?

We rolled into Sand Hollow that night, saved the fish with some bottled water and sank into our camp chairs in the sand.

This was going to be a good week.

Somehow we managed to convince the parentals to drive the 20 minute drive from their house to visit us at our campsite everyday.

Grandpa Dick loved riding in the dune buggy with Ayden, but he loved driving the razor more and he would find excuses to take it for a spin.  "I need to go find Cody on the road."

My first ride out with West we hit the sand dunes and threw up some sand, but we continued on to where the good riding was at, the rocks.

(I am so in love with that tree.)

Where West inevitably saw a sign for "The Maze" and decided that sounded like a very good idea indeed.

Where we inevitably got lost and couldn't find our way back out again.  The trail was made for jeeps and off roading vehicles which are much larger than our little razor and a lot of the obstacles were impossible for us to go over.  We felt trapped and couldn't remember how we'd gotten in.  Twilight was threatening and we were on the verge of wondering if we should call someone when we finally found our way back to the way we had come in .

I was done riding for a bit after that.  And I made certain West had a charged cell phone every time he ventured out with someone because his phone had been dead.  Luckily we'd had mine had we needed to use it.

We took our campfire smokey selves to breakfast in St. George with the parentals one morning.

Eating out for breakfast has to be one of the best things ever.

The conversation was good and the food was even better.

And I did eventually venture out for another ride with my man.

But this time we took Uncle Tim and Bryce with us.

The thing that I love about riding with West is that we get to see some amazing spots that aren't accessible by regular car or even hiking.  Well, I guess you could hike but it would take you an awful long time to get there and you'd be walking on riding trails so I may question your sanity about doing it.

My brother-in-law, Scott had been out riding with West and had sent my sister, McKell, texts about only having rolled twice and they were still going, all was well.

She was a little concerned and it became a joke.

Needles to say that when we came upon this cliff we had to send her some pics with her son Bryce hanging off the cliff with "all is well" texts.

And just in case you're questioning our sanity and judgment here's this to give away our trick:

No worries.  He was standing on the lower ledge the whole time.

Uncle Tim and West taught Bryce how cool it is to throw rocks off a cliff and listen to it as it goes down.  These cliffs were drop offs and it made my stomach queasy to listen to how long it was silent before the rock finally hit bottom.

For the record, to get into The Maze, you have to drive down (and back up again to get out) a wall that leaves you looking at the ground (left picture) and at one point we found a wedge to which West said, "Say no to crack babe."  And then he went for it anyway.  (right picture)  All you can do is hope one of your tires doesn't pop of of the wedge and leave you lying side ways in it.

A great big thank you to Uncle Tim who provided half of these pictures.  He's cool like that.

And a great big thank you to our families who joined us on this trip.  It wouldn't have been nearly as fun without you.

Next year?
