Today I...

Today I woke up early and got my laundry rotated.

Today I woke up early for my lovely yoga class, which has slowly been getting better.

Today I did not leave early enough to go running.

Today I listened to two chapters of the Book of Mormon on audio CD as I drove to campus.

Today I was told as I walked into the  LAC building by a guy who works at the counter (and who also happens to be in my yoga class) that yoga class has been canceled this morning.  Sick teacher equals no class.

Today I spent 15 minutes in the grocery store buying fingernail polish remover, naked juice, and the last part of what I need to send a little something something to my brother who's deployed.  And my prego sis in law and my rockin' nephew just because.

Insta Friday

My birthday is on Tuesday and to celebrate the occassion I'm going to be giving away my favorite things.  I've been pulling it together and frankly, I'm not going to lie, I just want to keep it.

Can you blame me?  It's all my favorite things!

I've come to realize in the process of putting this together that:
1. I apparently love chapsticks and lip glosses
2. I love snacky food.
3. I love really random stuff.

Doesn't that make you want to enter to win it all on Tuesday?

Ha.

It's okay if you don't.

I'll just keep it.

Aside from that, welcome to my insta Friday.
All the exciting things that I'm posting about on Instagram.

Just me and my phone.

And my kids.

Because seriously, without them, my life would be dull and I would be posting a lot of pictures of my desk at work because that's all I do.

I'm linking up with Life. Rearranged.
life rearranged

I'm thecircus6 on Instagram if you want to follow me over there.

While reading a story to me one night Cali stops and stares at the picture.

"This is a lot like us," she stated.

The fog rolled in for a day or two.

I figured out how to work the fog lights on the Navi.

That car might be growing on me a little bit now.

It's kind of a rock star in the snow and this month that has meant true bonding time for me and that car.

It's too early.
It's too cold.

I've been talking about running on campus before my yoga class.  The Man looked at me and said, "I don't think you're going to do it.  You and mornings just don't get a long."

He's right.  He knows me so well.  But him saying that...

it flipped the trigger I needed.  "I'll show him."

And I did.

I tackled a mile and half run before my yoga class.
Before the sun was up.

And I think I'll keep doing it.

We bought two gold fish to use as "decoration" in the bathroom.

Turns out we have a fun fish.  He has a white tail and he's half the size of the other.  We named him Wiley.

The other fish however...
he's a few short of having a full bushel.
When I feed them Wiley shoots up top and eats.

The other fish...
he swims back and forth really fast, like he doesn't know which way to go.  After a minute or so he finally makes it up to the top, but then he just starts sucking at the air.  He doesn't even find food right away.  There is something seriously wrong with this fish.

And I have yet to settle on a name for him.

We bough a new rug, which we decided wasn't big enough so we cut this one in half and put half of it in front of the front door, and got online and ordered a bigger one.

I know, right?  I'm a little shocked that we just up and cut it, but the next lower size was too small for what we wanted.  We know, we bought it.  And returned it.

When we want what we want, we do what we have to do to get those results.

And now our dogs are chewing on the edge of the carpet.

The Man took silicone to seal the edge of the carpet, and covered it with cayenne pepper while it was still wet.  Hopefully now if the dogs take a taste they'll decide that it isn't worth it.

We headed up to the Pig Pen Saloon in Park City for date night.

My co-worker is in a band and they were playing and raising money for Huntsman's Institute for Cancer.

This place, by the way, has good food.

I tackled an apple pie and cream cheese recipe from pinterest which was actually delicious.

Except the kids didn't eat it because they were too busy.

Too busy sledding down the front steps that is.

And since Jay had her birthday during Christmas break, The Man and I utilized one of his snow days to take her on her birthday lunch date.

This picture still cracks me up.

She chose Golden Corral because they have a chocolate fountain.

Obviously.

For the weekend:

We have Cali's birthday party with her friends tonight.
Cali's baptism tomorrow, which means Leatherby's ice cream with the whole family aftterwards.
And seeing as my birthday is looming on Tuesday, and all I want is to go shopping (letting The Man off the hook with that request) maybe I'll be able to get some of that squeezed in for myself.
My parents will be up from St. George today for all of the festivities and I can't wait to see them.

What are your plans?

Experience... The Raisin

In an effort to get my general ed done at a cheaper cost on my pocket book, I've been taking classes at the community college.

Last semester I took two classes online that weren't too bad to keep up with.

This semester I again signed up for two online classes (which I have since discovered are going to make my stress levels rise to new heights), and then needing a Health Life class, signed up for a yoga class before work.

Let me tell you, it's not easy rolling out of bed (am I the only one who seems, lately, to get their best sleep in the hour right before the alarm goes off?  Only to have it ruined by, well, the alarm?)  to tromp across a campus in semi-darkness and subzero temps.

And through frozen-over snow.

And when I finally make it to my yoga class, the room isn't much warmer than the air outside.

I've finally resorted to wearing three layers just to keep from shivering.

The instruction to remove your socks is not a welcomed instruction.

I signed up for a beginning yoga class because, to be perfectly honest, it was the only class offered on the campus that's just 10 minutes from where I work, so even though I've been taking yoga classes for 10+ years, I signed up for that beginning class instead of the intermediate class which might have been more my pace.

On the second morning of class I sat on my yoga mat, which lives in my trunk so I don't forget it, making it nice and icy to sit on, and surrounded by twenty-something bleach blondes who were twirling their hair with their finger, twenty-something emo boys in skinny jeans who were checking out the blondes under hooded eyes, and a handful of lanky jocks who just wanted to learn how to stretch better for basketball.

Life is basketball, man.

I noted that a midst all of this, I still wasn't the oldest the person in the class, but we are certainly a minority.

Our teacher came and started talking about how to "be in the moment."

Something I get after doing yoga for so long.  Something I appreciate.

But then she proceeded to pour raisins from a giant bag onto a paper plate and began walking around the chilled class instructing us to take two raisins.

The plate was put in front of my face and I resisted the grimace that I wanted to make.

Face of steel.

And I took two, making sure that at least one of them was the smallest speck of a raisin on the plate.

After the raisins had been distributed, my teacher then sat in front of us, cross-legged, and proceeded to tell us to "experience... the raisin."

We stared at the raisins in our hands.

She asked for thoughts.  What did we notice?  How did we feel?  What memories were stirred? Did we think about the time we ate raisins in our oatmeal?  Or about our grandma's oatmeal raisin cookies?

I was annoyed that my fingers were getting sticky from rolling raisins around in my hand.

Then, she proceeded to tell us to put one in our mouth, but as we ate it, we needed to be present in the moment, "experience... the raisin."

I threw it in my mouth and instantly felt the taste.  The skin broke and it... crunched in a very unnatural way.  I tried to focus on it but all I could think about was if any other fruit were to turn brown and shrivel up, we'd throw it away.

I swallowed it as fast as I could.

And then I sat there for a good five minutes, watching my teacher, eyes closed, hands on knees, rolling her raisin around in her mouth.  Experiencing it.

When her eyes finally opened, she told us to do it again with our other raisin.

For another solid five minutes I again watched my teacher roll her raisin around in her mouth, eyes closed, hands on knees.

And again, I just wanted to get through it.

Raisins just are not my thing.

We spent an entire hour, before the sun was up, shivering and trying to stay warm, and just... experiencing... the raisin.

Of all the things I could be doing on a dark, cold morning, this was not what I would have chosen to do.

It's enough to drive a girl to get a McDonald's Coke on her way to work.

Now that I can experience.
