The first day of school.
Again.
Officially.
For everyone this time.
Our three middle schoolers:
We are so in trouble.
Frying pans, who knew?
If you understand that reference and why I went there, bonus points to you.
Casidee is ruling the school as an 8th grader this year.
(for more on Jay's first day go here, for Brynn's go here).
Our elementary crew:
We have two fifth graders and a third grader this year.
Cali's already killing me with her eclectic style.
And it's only the first day.
She revamped her outfit five times until we finally settled on this.
Tayler and Sean get to be on Student Council this year. They had their first meeting about their responsibilities before school this morning.
We got a letter saying they had to earn money for their student council shirts and sweatshirts.
Tayler was all over it and has already earned her money.
Sean was like, "why would I earn money for that when I could earn money for a video game instead?"
Which is typical behavior for both of them. We'll see if Sean changes his mind as everyone else has shirts, but I don't know that he will. That boy is comfortable in his own opinions. Which is not a bad thing.
And so it begins.
The school year of 2013-14.

Brynn Starts Middle School.
Our middle school likes to stagger the start dates so the kids who are new to middle school have a chance to figure it out on a day when just their grade has the school, without all the other grades swarming around them.
Yesterday 7th grade had their crack at it (Jayme), today it's the 6th graders turn, which means Brynn.
This is the first year that our school district has included 6th grade in middle school (and 9th grade in high school) so it gives us two girls hitting middle school for the first time this year, and it gives us three kids in middle school. But Cas is an old hand at this middle school stuff now so she doesn't get a special start day. She starts on Monday with the rest of our crew.
After back to school night Brynn felt pretty confident about going to middle school. She found all her classes are grouped fairly close together (planned that way by the school to make it easier on the 6th graders) and she also found that she knew at least one person, if not more, in every class. Plus she found a couple of friends who share her lunch (her sisters got the opposite lunch of her).
The only thing that gave her stress was that dang locker. She just couldn't get it to open.
After a half hour of practicing on it she found she just wasn't yanking up on it hard enough and from then on was able to get it every time.
She's good with this middle school stuff now.
They're growing up but I'm okay with that.
It's fun to see what they get interested in and the things they become involved in. I think I barely survived when they were babies and toddlers. This big kid stuff? I like it.
