We tend to go a little stir crazy around our house when we don't have something to do. Sitting around and watching movies is all good and fun, but after one movie we're ready to get up and get going. And after one day at the house, we need some place to go to stretch our legs out a bit.
I guess we're high maintenance?
But man alive do we get to see a lot of things and do a lot of things. I only wish our bank account could keep up with the pace of life we want to be living.
As it goes we had to spend this weekend at home.
Sort of.

The perfect day
The day was upper 80s and we had big plans for the day. We met up with Sam and his two girls, and Megan and Aaron and their new baby Braxton. Of course we had some issues with West's ex this time (standing at her front door in Murray 20 min. after talking to her. She calls "where are you?" "Uh, standing at your front door, where are YOU?" Oh... at her boyfriends back in Sandy. She couldn't have mentioned that 20 min. earlier when West talked to her?), but after that hitch the day was absolutely perfect in my book. We arrived at Antelope Island and pulled out our lunches, sprayed on our sunblock and when the food was gone, we traipsed down to the water.

This was something I figured the kids needed to do at least once in their childhood. After all, so much of our state and culture and history deals with this great mass of salt water sitting in the middle of our state. We smell it on stormy days and get our salt for dinner from it. The kids needed to see it first hand. They were amazed by the salty foam:
And the water could not have been a more comfortable temperature. It felt so silky soft on my skin (all the salt? It was like being at a spa).
The rocks in the water were all so flat it wasn't hard to find some to skip. Tayler picked up a new skill :)
And of course, the kids discovered what it is to float in the Great Salt Lake. "MOM!! I'm not touching the bottom and I'm FLOATING!!" They were shocked and amazed.
They dug and played and floated and skipped rocks. And chased brine flies.

After awhile though all that salt does dry to the skin, caking everyone in a white film, and it gets itchy itchy. So we hiked back up the beach and rinsed off in the fresh water showers. We asked the rangers where we should go to show the kids the buffalo. The big bulls were in one directions, the rest of the heard in the other... so we did both. Thus bull was as big as our SUV!
We went home with KFC, and called some neighbor friends to join our group at the park for some baseball. SO MUCH FUN.

Work party at the Bee's game
I have to say that I was very blessed to find my job. This summer they did a cool new thing and had a company party and BBQ at the Bee's game. Wendel Burt got to throw out the first pitch. When he told me that I replied, "you better hope you can at least get it to home plate." He laughed and said, "no kidding!" My ex was being particularly difficult this weekend and after giving me less than 24 hour notice on Thursday with a text "can I have the girls tomorrow to Wednesday" and my replying in so many texts because he kept arguing with me that we did have this company game we were going to. He told me to make the girls choose, which I don't think was very fair of him to push on them. On top of that Friday I had a family reunion to go to, a cake tasting for a wedding cake I was making, Saturday we had the game, and Sunday I was talking. I absolutely had no way of meeting him on such sort notice. I volunteered to meet him Sunday after church with all four kids, for as long he liked, but he needing to be... well... anyway, made the kids choose. Three decided, with much difficulty, to go with him, and he had to come all the way to get only three. Seems to me it would have been much easier to just work with me rather than try to be so demanding and rude.
But off that tandem and on to the real reason for this post, the game. It was fun to be able to talk to all the people from all the different stores. I work in the corporate office and only usually get to interact with all the guys at the stores over the phone. It was a beautiful night and I enjoyed showing off at least half my family any way :).

The American past time
What do you get when you add 8 kids, 10 adults, 5 dogs, and a beautiful Sunday together? You get a BBQ at West's, followed by a rowdy game of baseball at the park. (We had West and me and the circus, Jes, Brenna, and Sam, West's dad, Mike, West's mom, Suzann, his sister, Lindee and her boyfriend Sam, and his Uncle Tim, Aunt Shirsten, and cousin Caleb).
Cali played frisbee with... I don't which dog. One of Suzann's. She was pretty good at it too, as she kept the poor dog guessing. Cali wasn't actually very good at throwing the frisbee (surprise surprise at her age) and half the time she had it going behind her.
West made the best burgers and chicken on the bbq and thanks to everyone else (except me because West didn't tell me about this little plan until an hour before it happened. He said I'm always helping and this time he just wanted me to sit back and enjoy it) there were sides and desserts.

West was permanent pitcher. I pretty much was permanent 1st baseman. Mike was permanent catcher. Everyone else floated around as needed and the kids did most of the hitting and running bases... at first. But then the grown ups started pounding the balls too and we had the kids running outfield. And then there's Suzann... she was just off in her own little world, but at least she was nice enough to stand in the field :) she's too funny.

The cutest thing I've ever seen in my life is Sam running towards me and first base after Cas helped him hit. We sent him on to Lindee at second, his mom at third, and what do you know, somehow we just couldn't manage to get him out and he hit home plate.
Tayler gave herself puppy duty at first, but after a bit she joined in and actually has a dang good swing on her.
